Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback) Her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. However, her parents didn't want her to perform until she turned an adult, fearing the effects of stress. Perry was shy in high-school and was not a performer. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then brought Perry home to California, where theater jobs were in demand. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013. She performed with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Perry played a prominent role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. The actress was also featured on the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger of Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. She was cast in the role by auditioning for an open role despite being a fan of this persona.
